Well, it's getting to be that time again. Here at the Bloodmoon Underground, we tend to operate on a rhythmic cycle where we endure manic episodes of creativity followed by periods of great insight and, well... not so much creativity. We can never seem to stay in one place, although we usually have the intention of doing so. It may generally seem counterproductive and be characterized by an apparent lack of motivation, this constant inner conflict is not an uphill battle in the end. We are actually grateful for our attention deficit when looking back on these periods of conflict. We never spend too long doing something we aren't truly passionate about, because we put everything we have into whatever has our attention at that time. This is just the way we operate.
In the pursuit of creativity and meaning, we have discovered a great source of energy. Multiple sources, actually; and they all lead back to one thing - nostalgia. Drawing has always been a center point of these nostalgic energies, and our romanticist disposition idealizes situations and hypotheticals constantly, to the point where certain events or scenarios cultivate a sense of nostalgia almost immediately. This is something we have struggled to manage in the past, but we now have begun to understand that it is one of our most powerful qualities and something we must hone. It is a way of seeing ourselves in our purest and most magical form.
If you haven't caught on by now, our biggest artistic inspiration is the work of the legendary GHOSTSHRIMP. Throughout the past decade, but mostly in this previous year, we have become more and more involved in the Ghostshrimp & Friends community. We have deep nostalgic ties to Ghostshrimp and their work, and as we have become more involved, we have taken on many of their qualities that we have deemed most powerful and influential to our own life and sense of direction. In many ways, we have gained clarity in our search for meaning through studying the life and work of the Ghostshrimp. As we dove head first back into our artistic initiation, we found that Ghostshrimp went from being our source of infinite inspiration and nostalgia artistically, to a source of infinite inspiration and unconventional wisdom in the way we perceive life as a whole. Our experience in Ghostshrimp's 12 Week Online Group Workshop was absolutely crucial to our initiation and individualization process by taking us out of our comfort zone in many ways, and giving us a ridiculous amount of hype that provided us with daily high morale and enthusiasm. Apathy does not exist here. We took on a mentor, and gained a cousin. A bunch of cousins, actually - the group dynamic of the workshop only strengthened our core of creative friendships indefinitely. If we were lucid dreaming 10 years ago and saw ourselves now, we'd probably sling our old catchphrase, "Yo what the fuck!"
Ghostshrimp, since their humble beginnings as the world's first independent solar powered illustration company, has not stopped pursuing their mission - "To do the coolest things we can imagine, and to inspire others to do the coolest things they can imagine." This has proven to inspire us in a multitude of ways.
Look at where we are at motherfuckers!!! This is some sort of fucking crazy pseudo-hermetic initiation ritual that we've been going through to get here. It may not look like much, but we've come to understand it as being called Ghostiny, if you're into that sort of thing. So many possibilities for where we can go next, but it's gonna take some fucking work! Real work!! If you see yourself stepping out of the mainstream paradigm; if you see that there is another way; if you see the people around you steeping in negativity and lamenting in existence, you need to get the fuck out of there! Stoke up other people and don't let anyone drag you down! Create a vision of your dream reality and take the steps necessary to get a little bit closer to that ideal. Make a plan. A goddamn real one. Don't compare yourself to what others have done or to the timeline of those who have done this before you; you are a uniquely creative individual and it is your responsibility to take your destiny into your own fucking hands!! If you are taking small steps every day towards your dream reality, that means you're already living in the dream motherfucker! That shit is never done!! Not everyone is presented with the same opportunities and situations, so it's up to you to make it work in the way that's unique to your situation and is still wicked sick. Shout outs to all the creative homies who are killing it and sharing in the cycle of inspiration, you know who you are. Let's fucking do it up!!! Anyways, enough pretending that we want to do shit and time to actually fucking do it. We have some projects to get busy planning on that are somewhat relevant to this long winded and neurotic memoir. More on that later...
